Jim represented Pennsylvania’s Eighth Congressional District from 1993 to 2005, where he played a pivotal role in healthcare and environmental leadership as a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee. His legislative achievements include reforming the Food and Drug Administration, introducing the pediatric exclusivity and pediatric autism research acts, and advocating for stem cell research conducted by US scientists.
From 2001 to 2004, Jim chaired the House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations. During this tenure, he spearheaded investigations into corporate governance at Enron, Global Crossing, and WorldCom, aimed at reforming the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and addressing waste and fraud in federal government agencies. Before his congressional tenure, Jim served in the Pennsylvania General Assembly from 1981 to 1992, with six years in the State House and six in the State Senate. He also co-chaired the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans.
Prior to joining 1TCC Jim served as the president and CEO of BIO, a trade association representing over 1,000 biotechnology companies globally. He also chaired DLA Piper’s Life Sciences Policy group, providing strategic advice on legislative, regulatory, and policy issues affecting the Healthcare and Life Sciences sectors.
Dr. Abraham Verghese is one of 1TCC’s Executive Board Advisors. He is also the Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. He is a board-certified professional in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and pulmonary medicine. And, at Stanford, he leads PRESENCE, a multidisciplinary center that studies the human experience of patients, physicians, and caregivers.
Further, Dr. Verghese is a distinguished author and thought leader. His literary achievements include the adaptation of his first book, “My Own Country,” into a movie and his novel, “Cutting for Stone,” spending an impressive 107 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list. His latest novel, “The Covenant of Water,” released in 2023, has garnered acclaim as an Oprah Book Club pick and secured a spot on the New York Times bestseller list for six consecutive months. His diverse accomplishments extend to his recognition as an elected member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
In 2016, he received the National Humanities Medal at the White House from President Obama.
Sanjay Bonde serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TCC. Sanjay is an expert in strategic finance, supply chain finance, international finance, M&A, and corporate development. During his career leading companies in senior-level business roles, he has helped companies develop innovative financial and corporate development strategies driving business growth globally. He has lived and worked in Europe, Asia, and the US and led several cross-functions in addition to Financial Strategies, including Product Development, Marketing, Solution Sales, Supply Chain, and Talent Management.
Sanjay also serves as the Chairman of Monarch Tractors, Board Advisor to a Pritzker Family holding company, and has been CEO of Wintec, a technology-led, semiconductor and supply chain business. He is also the founder of an electric vehicle company, Genze, and Bonde Ventures. He actively supported the formative period of Mahindra Finance, a non-banking finance company with US$ 11 billion in assets and over 35,000 employees and was Vice President & General Manager at Bristlecone Inc, a Mountain View, California-based inventory and supply chain optimization company catering to global semiconductor and hi-tech industries. Called upon for his expertise in both finance and technology, Sanjay has provided strategic advice to varied technology companies in Silicon Valley.
Sanjay currently resides in Menlo Park, California. He received executive leadership training at Harvard Business School and the London School of Economics after earning his MBA/MMS and BE in Electronics and Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Mumbai.
